About this work
Mortar along the ridge is usually the first thing on a roof to go. It cracks, lets water sit behind it and eventually the ridge tiles themselves start to move — which is when a straightforward job turns into a bigger one.
We rake out the old mortar, bed and repoint the ridge properly, and refix or replace any tiles that have lifted. Where lead is involved — around chimneys, in valleys or against abutments — we renew the flashing so the junctions are sealed.
It's detail work, and it's usually what decides whether the rest of the roof stays dry.
Common questions
- How do I know if my ridge needs repointing?
- Crumbling or missing mortar visible from the ground is the usual sign. We'll take a proper look before quoting.
- Do you do chimney leadwork?
- Yes — chimney flashings, valleys and abutment details are all part of the work.
